From Contract to Cooking: Our 8-Step Kitchen Remodel Timeline – What to Expect, Week-by-Week

Setting the Clock

One of the most frequent questions we get is, “How long will I be without a kitchen?” I get it—your kitchen is the heart of your home. As your contractor, my job is to manage the chaos and provide a reliable timeline. A typical, full kitchen renovation (Mid-Range Upgrade) takes between 8 to 12 weeks of construction time, but the preparation is just as important. Here is the step-by-step process we follow to ensure your project stays on track.

Phase 1: The Prep Work (Weeks 1-2)

  • Step 1: Demo Day & Prep: We secure the site, protect the rest of your home, and completely gut the old kitchen. This is the loud, dusty part that moves fast!

  • Step 2: Rough-In Inspections: The bones of your new kitchen are laid out. Our plumbers and electricians install new lines, often while the walls are still open. We get the necessary rough-in inspections done quickly to avoid delays.

Phase 2: Building the Core (Weeks 3-5)

  • Step 3: Close-Up & Finishing: Walls are closed, drywall is installed, taped, and mudded. We move on to painting. This is when the room starts to feel like a space again, not a construction site.

  • Step 4: Flooring Installation: A critical milestone. Whether it’s tile, hardwood, or LVP, the floor is installed to create a clean base for the cabinetry.

Phase 3: The Big Reveals (Weeks 6-10)

  • Step 5: Cabinet Installation: This is the most rewarding part for the homeowner! Cabinets are set, leveled, and secured. The room’s function is defined.

  • Step 6: Countertop Templating & Installation: Once cabinets are in, we precisely template for your countertops. This step has a mandatory 1-2 week lead time for fabrication. Once they arrive, installation is quick and transformative.

  • Step 7: Final Plumbing & Electrical (The Trim Out): Sinks, faucets, lighting fixtures, outlets, and switches are installed. Your appliances are moved in and hooked up.

Phase 4: The Finish Line (Weeks 11-12)

  • Step 8: Punch List & Final Inspection: We walk through the space with you to address any minor details (“the punch list”). The final inspection is scheduled and passed. You get your kitchen back!
